Slang – Binge-watch (or binge watch).
To watch many episodes of a TV series, or a whole series of films, one after another in a short time.
The word became hugely popular with the rise of streaming services like Netflix, where whole seasons appear at once. You pick a show and keep pressing “next episode”… until suddenly it’s 3am. People often use it when recommending a show: “It’s brilliant – totally binge-worthy!”
Binging:
To binge means to do something to excess in a short period of time. You’ll see it in lots of other combinations:
- Binge-eating – eating a very large amount of food in one go.
- Binge-drinking – drinking a lot of alcohol in a short time, often to get wasted.
- Binge-gaming – playing video games for hours on end.
- Binge-reading – reading a whole book series back to back.
Binge-watching is mostly harmless fun, but the other kinds of binging are best done in moderation!
